Colchester Leisure World is great fun any day of the year but it’s a great place to go if the weather’s not so good. It’s all inside and there’s a massive choice of sports to choose from – why not try something no-one in the family has played before and make it a first time for all of you!
Swim Swim Swim
Completely spoilt for choice with three pools – a fitness pool, a teaching pool and a fantastic leisure pool with a pirate theme and a massive flume ride that spirals in to the fresh outside air and back inside again. The kids will find this great fun, especially if it’s raining outside! There’s a cafe beside the pool to grab a fruit juice or an ice cream for good behaviour! The centre offers lessons for children of all ages and abilities, including sessions for parents and toddlers.
More Than Swimming
Colchester Leisure World, as the name suggests, offers more than just swimming for its eager visitors. There are badminton courts, a well-equipped gym, squash and tennis courts plus gymnastics and even archery. At busy times, during school holidays and at weekends it would be best to book ahead but if you’re arriving unexpectedly why not leave it to chance and see what sport you end up playing as a family!
Make a Day of it
If you have the time then you should spend a day in Colchester. If the weather is fine then you can cross the footbridge in to Castle Park to enjoy the gardens and a picnic – if it’s not so great then you can eat inside Leisure World at the cafe or restaurant. There’s a MacDonald’s on site too. At the rear of the Leisure centre is a tenpin bowling centre with arcade games and a small restaurant/bar so you could round off the day with a family game of bowling.
Highlight of the Day
The fantastic flume rides in the Leisure Pool.
