North London is the setting for this gorgeous lido and kite flying at Parliament Hill.
The Outdoor Pool
Despite being extremely popular during the 1920s and 30s, the outdoor pool faded from family life when multiplex leisure centres were introduced. Luckily for adventure swimmers, the lido at Parliament Hill survived and is a great place to show your children how great swimming in the outdoors can be.
Updated and Improved
A recent cash injection of £2.9 million meant a lot of improvements to this charmingly retro pool. It now has a cool stainless steel lining to help bounce around the light and retain heat, improved changing room facilities and many more upgraded features.
Fun for the Kids?
Your family will love the sense of freedom that swimming in the open air brings – a completely different experience from the indoor pools they’ll be used to and you’ll be transported back to a simpler time with good old fashioned outdoor fun. The shallow end is roped off for safety and there’s a wide surround circling the pool so children can run and you can rest. Even in the hot summer months it rarely feels crowded and is a great place for children to enjoy this unique swimming experience.
Before you go to the Parliament Hill Lido and Hampstead
If you have energy left after your day swimming make sure you climb to the very top of Parliament Hill to see all of London below you. Watch or join in the kite flying! After your climb make your way to the South End Green and watch your children play in the woods on the banks of the ponds, sploshing in the mud and feeding the ducks. Before heading home take some time to look around the winding back streets of Hampstead Village on your way to the High Street.
Highlight of the day
Swimming will absolutely be the highlight of your day, after that it could just be pancakes outside the King William IV pub – well worth the queue!
