Bring out the budding thespians in your family with a Family Day at The Unicorn Theatre…enjoy the morning drama workshop, watch the afternoon performance and top off the day by joining the cast for tea after the show!
How it came about
The Unicorn Theatre is the country’s oldest children’s theatre with early performances dating back as far as 1947 to cheer up the post war nation. In those early days the creator of this brilliant youth led theatre, Caryl Jenner, toured with her company in a decommissioned civil defence van. After her death in 1973 her dream was kept alive and in 2005 the Unicorn Theatre Club moved in to the purpose built, state-of-the-art property at Tooley Street!
The Unicorn has two stages, a cafe and an education centre. Seating is unreserved so you can pick where you want to sit! The 620 productions staged every year by the Unicorn Theatre club are exceptional and in addition the theatre invites other countries to put on their own young person shows throughout the year. Youth Theatre groups are also available.
Highlight of the Day
With the closest tube stations being Tower Hill and London Bridge, make sure you have enough time in your day to admire these iconic London landmarks. There’s a great view of these and City Hall too outside the theatre, on the pedestrian precinct!
